Superfoods are a unique group of natural foods, loaded with nutrients and very low in calories. They are excellent sources of illness-fighting antioxidants and essential, immune-boosting nutrients.

Furthermore, superfoods can even act like medications, and can help stave off and treat various health disorders such as anxiety, depression, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and arthritis. Some superfoods can also help you lose weight, lower your cholesterol levels, and relieve systemic inflammation and pain.

Although fresh tomatoes are great to eat, consuming tomato paste or cooked tomatoes may help your body absorb the lycopene more efficiently. Whether you consume your tomatoes fresh or processed, the benefits remain. Diets high in lycopene may help decrease your risk of certain cancers, such as prostate, lung, bladder, stomach and skin cancers. Lycopene may also help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and help reduce the risk of skin damage caused by ultraviolet rays.

Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds are one of the weight-loss superfood superstars, as they are high in fiber and protein, and are rich sources of Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help to improve overall cardiovascular health while helping to lower total cholesterol levels, and keeping pan
